Do you ask the river
why she carves such a crooked path?

Or the palm
why she requires so much of the sun?

Do you resent the cacti
for clinging, toes in the desert sand?

Or the orchid
for reaching for more water?

How then do you judge your needs?
Compare yourself to others,
As though you might compare the trees?
